The Xiaomi Mi A1 was launched under the Android One program with Android Nougat. Xiaomi had promised to update the device to Android Oreo by the end of year. Although the update arrived on the last day of 2017 but Xiaomi managed to keep their promise. Unfortunately, Xiaomi seems to have rushed in the to meet the deadline.
Users started reporting issues about unresponsive apps and battery drains. The company acknowledged the issues and stopped the update. The rollout of 8.0 will resume “in next couple of weeks”, Mi India confirmed on social media.
Issues With Xiaomi Mi A1 Android Oreo Update
Some of the known issues are
- Unresponsiveness of apps like the camera app, dialer app, Recents app.
- Unresponsiveness of the ambient light sensor.
- Not Working of the swipe on fingerprint sensor gesture.
- Massive battery drain when the Bluetooth was turned on.
The most annoying is related to the dialer app, which would stop responding or not work as intended (delays while making a call). Xiaomi representative, at the Mi Community forums has suggested users to uninstall the My Jio app from the phone. Jio is responsible for the phone app and it is looking into the matter and addressing the bug.
Xiaomi Mi A1 had also received a Rs 1,000 price cut earlier in December which made it even more affordable. It was one of the first smartphones to get updated to Android Oreo in its price range.. Xiaomi has already stated that it will also be one of the first phones to get Android P, thanks to their partnership with Google for the Android One campaign. But we have our fingers crossed on that one as the ‘First to be’ isn’t turning out so good for the Chinese manufacturer.
