Samsung is known for its best in class displays. Samsung’s OLED panels are without doubt. one of the best in the world. Even Apple asked Samsung to make displays for their iPhone X. The iPhone X now stands next to the Galaxy Note 8 in ‘most gorgeous display’ category, thanks to Samsung.
2018 is expected to be a year of foldable smartphones. Along with that, it looks like the South Korean giant has a few more surprises in store for us. Samsung recently filed a patent for a rollable display that can be activated by fingerprint. It uses a very small rotating motor and magnets that are positioned along the main body that houses the display.
Although it might take a few more years before such displays become mainstream, we have seen prototypes like these in the past. With CES 2018 just around the corner, we expect to see more developed products.
The patented flexible display can curl around a main body which users can easily carry wherever they want. The patent shows two types of metallic bodies where the rollable display is pulled by the magnets: cylindrical and square. Both feature fingerprint sensors that allow users to unfold the rollable display with a touch of a finger.
We might also get our first look at Under-the-glass fingerprint technology soon at CES 2018. This year looks like we are in for some dope tech.
