OnePlus brings Android Oreo to OnePlus 5T Via An Open Beta Update

A few days ago, OnePlus teased Android Oreo based open beta update for the OnePlus 5T but didn’t say anything about the availability. Well, the update is live now and is available to download.

OnePlus 5T received an OxygenOS 4.7.6 update just a couple of days ago and that was an official OTA update which is still rolling to devices.

If you are a OnePlus 5T user who is willing to run Android Oreo on his phone, you can now download the open beta build and flash it on your phone. Remember, it is not an official OTA update and only a beta build, so you’ll be exposed to data loss. Make sure you join OnePlus’ open beta program before attempting to update to OxygenOS Open Beta 1 (Android Oreo).

The open beta build brings Android Oreo’s new features and improvements as well as the December security patch including the below mentioned tweaks –

Launcher

  • Optimized the app shortcut style;
  • Combine icon options with app shortcuts;
  • Now able to upload photos to Shot on OnePlus.

System

  • Added Picture in Picture;
  • Added Auto-Fill;
  • Added Smart Text Selection;
  • New Quick Settings design.

It is advisable to make a backup of your data before flashing this update. Once you flash this open beta on your OnePlus 5T, you won’t be able to revert to an official build through another update, so you’ll need a full install and clean flash. It is good to see OnePlus listening to their users and pushing out beta builds to make the final update bug free.
