Just a couple of days ago, Huawei released a list of Honor devices which are supposed to get updated to Android Oreo. The list didn’t include Honor 8 and Honor 6x. As a result, the users of those two devices bombarded Honor with questions and queries on Twitter.
Honor confirmed that Honor 8 which was launched back in October 2016 will not get the EMUI 8.0 update. the company confirmed the news on
Twitter in response to a user’s tweet. The reason stated was hardware and software limitations of the device.
Honor 8 won’t get the taste of Oreo
… we regret to inform you that Honor 8 is not compatible for Android Oreo update due to hardware and software limitations. We always work for our customers and we are really glad to have you as an Honor customer. Inconvenience is regretted.
On the other hand, in reply to a user’s query for the 6x, Honor went on to say that the EMUI 8.0 Android Oreo update for the device is ‘under evaluation’. The reply didn’t mention any time frame.
Honor 6x Oreo update ‘Under Evaluation’
The EMUI 8.0 focuses on AI and machine learning. Huawei claims that the new EMUI 8.0 update will make the software experience smarter and quicker. EMUI 8.0 sports features like AI-powered Real-Time Scene and Object Recognition, Smart Tips, and AI Accelerated Translator. Although some of these features might vary depending on the device.
Concluding, Honor 8 has been cut off altogether from the list of smartphones to get Android 8.0 Oreo. At least until the Chinese company changes its mind again.
