Face Unlock Is Here For OnePlus 5 Via OxygenOS Open Beta 3 update

After launching the OnePlus 5T last month with Face Unlock – which indeed, is very fast, OnePlus has consistently been approached by the OnePlus 5 users requesting them to add this additional layer of security to their devices as well. It is only fair, as OnePlus 5 was launched in the mid of this year.

Oneplus replied with a promise to bring the Face Unlock to OnePlus 5 via an update. the company’s co-founder Carl Pei said that by popular demand, Face Unlock will be implemented into the OnePlus 5 software as well. This is onlly possible because unlike Face ID, Face Unlock doesn’t require any extra sensors and uses only the general sensors which are also present in the OnePlus 5.

Aside from the Face Unlock and December security patch, the update brings several other features which include

  • Added app shortcut on Launcher.

  • Added Face Unlock;
  • Optimizations for vibrations;
  • Fixed connection issue of 5G Wi-Fi;
  • General bug fixes and improvements;
  • Updated Android security patch for December.

The update is being pushed out in waves, so it might take a few days to propagate to all the OnePlus devices. It is a 106 MB update.

Between all the rumors of OnePlus 6 launching early this year with an undderglass fingerprint scanner, OnePlus has been very active in rolling out updates this week. OnePlus CEO, Carl Pei also teased that OnePlus 3 and 3T too, could get the Face Unlock eventually.
