Apple today unveiled a new smart home speaker – HomePod – that also acts as a HomeKit hub with Siri built right into it.
HomePod features directional controls, precision acoustic horns, an A8 chip, Apple music and more. Apple says that the speaker is capable of automatically detecting the dimensions of a room and adjusting the volume dynamically.
Siri is on board with six microphones built-in – so that it can hear a person from across the room. You can set reminders, check scores, convert units and more just like the Amazon Echo. It’ll also integrate with one’s homekit so that he can control lights and other smart home gadgets.
The “breakthrough home speaker” is coming later this year, Apple’s Phil Schiler said. It’ll come in black and white. It’s under 7 inches tall and features a seven-speaker array of tweeters on the bottom.
HomePod will be available this December for $349, no words on India launch date and price yet. At $349, is much more expensive than what you’d get from the Amazon Echo or Google Home. But, the speaker is also supposedly much better.
